Jessie Diggins Does It Again!

Two-time Olympian Jessie Diggins is showing both her versatility and her consistency so far this cross-country skiing season, earning her third world cup podium finish with a third-place finish in the women’s 10-kilometer freestyle on Sunday in Davos, Switzerland.
Diggins opened the season ranked fifth in the mini tour in Ruka, Finland, then placed second in skiathlon—which combines freestyle (or skate) skiing and classic skiing—and crushed the anchor leg to help the women take second in the 4×5-kilometer in Lillehammer, Norway, last weekend.
On Sunday, she was just 36.4 seconds behind Norway’s Therese Johaug, who crossed the line in 25 minutes, 2.7 seconds. Johaug’s teammate, Heidi Weng, was second with a time of 25:33.3, and Diggins followed in 25:39.1.
Diggins also moved up from fourth to third in the overall world cup rankings this weekend with teammate Sadie Maubet Bjornsen now in fourth.
The Afton, Minnesota, native has solidified the beast season start of her career. Prior to this, the quickest she reached three podium finishes was in seven tour stops in both 2016-17 and 2018-19.
Diggins’ finish in Davos made it a two-podium event for the U.S. Sophie Caldwell was third in the first freestyle sprint of the season on Saturday. Three U.S. women have now earned individual podium finishes so far this season, with Maubet Bjornsen taking third in the classic sprint in Ruka.
